Hi Thomas, Good point about working with these challenging students. The human factor can help you get through to them or at least help them to understand the necessity for learning the course content, even if they already know everything in the world. Gary
Hi Lori, I think you are doing a great service to and for your students by helping them with their communication skill development. All careers require communication so the better these skills are the greater their career growth and opportunities for advancement. Gary
Hi Susan, You are using a number of instructional strategies to engage your students. This really helps capture their attention. I think the use of history with current applications is a great way to make way to help students to see application and relevancy to what they are learning. Gary
Hi Aimee, What are some ways you help your students to keep their motivation up when they start to get discouraged? Gary
Hi Michelle, This is a great instructional format because it builds the confidence of students. They learn and then they apply. This is what application and relevancy is all about. Keep up the good work. Gary
Hi Michelle, This is an ongoing process for instructors and I really appreciated your remarks about the need for this type of encouragement. The key as you mentioned is help them see what they are doing now is a part of their future. They have to keep their vision in front of them if they are going to stay enrolled and working to succeed. Gary
Hi Jana, Rapport is so important for teaching success. You have given some great advice for instructors to follow in order to develop rapport with their students. The human aspect of teaching is so important in building a connection between instructor and students. Gary
Hi Michele, Thanks for sharing your approach. This shows that a course like Medical Coding can be offered in a way that keeps the students excited and engaged while have a good time learning. Gary
Hi All, Thank all of you for comments on how to identify and develop your instructional style. You all have shared many great ideas that will help all of us to become better instructors. Gary
Hi Crystal, You are doing all of the right things as a developing new instructor. Take the feedback and grow from it. To receive some lower or more critical evaluations is to be expected (not necessarily liked) because you are working outside of your comfort zone as you develop your expertise. Your next evaluations will be much better because you have grown from the experience you have gained during the past quarter. If you have any specific questions about instructional development I will be glad to try and answer them. Good luck! Gary
