I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Mike, This is a great start to a new class. The students know they have an instructor that cares and is there to support their success if they will put forth the effort. Gary
Hi Paul, I understand your disappointment with certain students because I feel the same way when I have students that have the ability but won't apply themselves. So many people don't get the chance to go to school and for those that do and don't put forth the effort there is no excuse. We can continue to support such students and hope they catch fire and get motivated to achieve. Gary
Hi Victoria, The use of visual media and actual cases helps the students to "connect the dots" between the classroom and real life. This really helps with motivation as you know. Keep up the good work. Gary
Hi Zack, All three of these strategies are giving support to the students on a regular basis. I commend you for your efforts and I know your students appreciate the encouragement they receive when they start to wear down during the course. Gary
Hi Kim, This is a great way to provide support to your students. They know you care about them and their success and this is critical for their success. Gary
Hi Jacqueline, This is one of the outcomes of being a teacher. You are influencing the next generation of professionals in your field while leaving a legacy of success. Gary
Hi Joan, This is so true and so important. Without application and relevancy students see no purpose to their classes nor future. Your points are critical for all instructors to understand and then work to achieve. Gary
Hi Tammy, Right you are. The more you can get students feeling professional about the training they are receiving as well seeing their future in the career field the higher the motivation is going to be. Gary
Hi Kim, I commend you for the strategies that you are using in coping with situation that enables you to work with your students in spite of the pressure of getting through the material and dealing with large numbers of students. This is a sign of a true educator and dedicated professional. Gary
Hi Holly, Passion for one's field really helps to sell excitement and enthusiasm to others. You can get a much higher level of buy in when they believe you really want them to be successful in your field. Gary
