Hi Jennifer, Good way to use the syllabus as a information tool for the students. By referring to it and guiding the students through it you are letting them know you value the syllabus and that they need to make it a part of their course reference so they will be know what is going on throughout the course. Gary
Hi Sharion, This is a great way to approach the classroom each time. It is the first time for these students so we instructors need to be prepared and at the top of our game to make sure we are engaging our students in the content. Gary
Hi Sherry, This is such a great service you can provide your students. By helping them see you care about their success and that there are supports available through SRS, etc. really helps to relieve their minds. By knowing this kind of support is there they know they are not alone in trying to handle being students as well as all of the pressures of life. Gary
Hi Kristin, Thank you for sharing this excellent list of strategies with us. Often times online instructors feel that they don't know how to engage and involve their students. You have shared a number of ideas that they can use to encourage, support and involved their students. I know these are going to be helpful to many instructors. Gary
Hi Rhonda, You are very fortunate to have such a support in your school. This is great because you can continue to grow and expand your expertise as an educator while continuing to impact the lives of your students. Gary
Hi Michael, Great way to change the pace of the class while keeping the students focused on the content. Human brains like change but also like routine. As educators we need to create a routine for students within the class while offering change of pace in our instructional delivery. By doing both we will keep learning progressing throughout each class. Gary
Hi All, Thank you all for the good thoughts you shared with us on why a good first impression is so important while giving examples of how that impression can be created. You are right about the need to create a good first impression because it is tough to dig out of a hole once you are in it. We need to be forward focused in our teaching so with a positive first impression we can have that focus. Keep up the good work everyone. Gary
Hi Roger, Thanks for your input on your instructional style. I am wondering if there is more to how you approach the classroom and your students? What are some strategies you use to reach your students? Gary
Hi John, I like your plan. With your observations and workshop attendance you are learning about a lot of different ways of approaching the classroom. Now you can select from these options and blend them with your personality and you are going to have a winner in terms of your instructional style. Gary
Hi Cynthia, I like your last sentence. Be yourself and develop a style that fits you and your personality. The results are going to be more effective and efficient teaching and a higher level of satisfaction. You have a great outlook on teaching and I know this carries over into your classroom to the benefit of your students. Gary
