About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi James, You can't have too much preparation behind you when planning for a course. By being prepared you feel much more comfortable in front of the students and they in turn comfortable with you. Gary
Hi Wanda, Good strategy. I think this will really benefit your students. Be interesting to observe the results you get with this effort. Gary
Hi Jennelle, This is what makes learning have application and relevancy for students. The more they can relate course content to their own lives the higher the motivation level is going to be. Good job with bringing in current applications. Gary
Hi Mahnaz, This is how content and skills are stored in the working memories of students. The more they practice the more the information is integrated into their working abilities. Gary
Hi Kevin, Good example you give in relation to a course syllabus being a road map. Without a road map no one will know where the course is going to a syllabus needs to be well planned and organized to make sure everyone on the educational journey knows where they are going. Gary
Hi Kara, Good explanation of how a syllabus is suppose to work for a course. If well developed the syllabus does a great job of helping students getting settled into the new course while answering many of their questions. Gary
Hi Ross, Good point about the need to establish rapport with students. With rapport comes respect and that creates a comfortable learning environment for everyone. Gary
Hi Ross, Good way to customize and personalize your instruction to meet the needs of your students. These efforts will help to keep the students engaged and focused on the course content. Gary
Hi Travis, Good strategy. Students like to be able to bring their life experiences into the classroom. You are enabling them to contribute while keeping the class moving forward. Gary
Hi Edwin, Good points about how much the environment sets the stage for successful learning. Sometimes we forget how important this is and how we need to make sure the setting is supportive to our students. Gary
