About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Brian, What are examples of how it teaches you to manage your time? Thanks for your input on this. Gary
Hi Judith, I like the use of job shadowing as a learning tool. This really gets the students fired up about their studies and helps them see the value of the courses they are taking. You are right about the discussions that come out of these experiences. The students come back ready to talk about what they have seen and experienced. Gary
Hi Timothy, You have outlined a way of expanding your professional expertise as well as being an effective instructor. Keep looking forward to how you can increase your skills as an educator and as a result teaching will become even more enjoyable. Gary
Hi Anthony, Keep up the professional development you are undertaking. With these efforts you are developing essential skills that will enable you to expand your instructional expertise. Gary
Hi Jennine, Good strategy. Keep reminding them that they are creating a future for themselves by taking the courses they are. Sometimes with the pressure of being students they forget what their ultimate goal really is. Gary
Hi Jennifer, Good variety of instructional delivery options. Your comments cover the key elements of learning for maximum student retention. Gary
Hi Richard, Students really like to hear stories from their instructors about what they did in their previous career. Your sharing these stories help to make it real for the students so keep sharing. Gary
Hi Brian, I agree with letting them know from the very beginning the course policies, requirements, and assignments. This helps to set the tone for the course and lets the students get settled in. Gary
Hi Tara, This is a good way to outline your policies and requirements. I have found the use of the addendum format concentrates the information they need on to one page so I can draw their attention to the key points if they have any questions about the policies. Gary
Hi Judith, Good comments. They are right on in terms of what needs to be done when preparing for a course. Variety in delivery and preparation will do much to set both the instructor and students at ease when class time comes. Gary
