About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Ross, Guest speakers and field trips are powerful motivators for students. These experiences help make real the course content you are sharing with them. Gary
Hi Travis, This is a great way to show respect for your students since you want to know about the life experiences they are bringing into the class. In addition, it helps their self confidence because they realize that as a result of their life experiences they have something to contribute to the course. Gary
Hi Debra, This is true plus it shows value by you to the students. When they get to share their life experiences you it demonstrates that you are welcoming them into the class and that their life experiences will be integrated into the course. Gary
Hi James, So true. If the instructor is not excited the students won't be either. We all know this but many instructors don't put forth the effort to keep the motivation level high for their students. Good point, thanks for sharing it. Gary
Hi Dianne, Spoken like a true veteran instructor. You are knowledgeable beyond your 5+ years because you know professional development is ongoing. You have a great sense of how to read each class and then adapt to their learning needs. I wish you continued success in teaching. Gary
Hi Stephanie, I know you are going to develop into a highly effective instructor by the attitude of learning you are sharing with us. By going to the teaching seminars, talking to other instructors, and reading you will be picking up all kinds of new ideas and strategies that you can make a part of your teaching style. Gary
Hi Misty, I like the questions you ask in your survey. You are getting some very valuable feedback from this. As you say this information gives you many ideas of how to shape your instructional content, delivery, projects and assignments. Gary
Hi Ross, Right you are about things entering into our lives and causing us to lose our way. What are some strategies you can share with us that have been effective for you? Gary
Hi James, Good point. If we as instructors don't do this we can fall into a rut that is not good for either our students or our professional growth. Gary
Hi Travis, What are some strategies you use to keep your creativity and focus on target throughout the course? Thanks for your input on this. Gary
