About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Sunshine, Good points about how to set the stage for moving the course forward and getting the students thinking about the content that is going to be delivered by a highly qualified professional educator. Gary
Hi Catherine, Right you are about the first impression. It is so much easier go forward with a good impression rather than trying to dig out of a negative hole. Gary
Hi Kevin, Like your example about swimming because I think that this is very true about learning. I also heard learning as being defined as trying to take a drink from a fire hose. So between drinking from a fire hose and trying to learn to swim students have many opportunities to get the information stored in their minds. Gary
Hi David, Critical thinking is such an important part of learning. The more opportunities you can provide your students with such opportunities the better prepared they will be to be successful in their careers. Gary
Hi Kanisha, I would guess that this gets the students really involved in the learning process as you peak their interest in the topic being covered. Gary
Hi Sunshine, You are right on with both parts of your forum response. Yes, the dynamics really do change with each class. This fact always gets me excited about starting a new class because I can't wait to see how they will come together as a learning unit. You are right about the need to really ramp up those courses that the students see as being boring or not important. These course test your ability to plan and deliver quality instruction. Gary
Hi Sunshine, Great way to introduce variety to the learning paths of your students. This format keeps them interested and engaged throughout the duration of the class. Brains like change of pace and you are offering that with your methods. Gary
Hi Catherine, Good way to get a snapshot of your students and their learning preferences. I am sure this really helps you to target your instructional planning. Gary
Hi David, With this approach you are connecting the dots for the students. You are helping them to see relevancy and application to what they are learning in a practical way. Gary
Hi Kevin, This is such valuable information to have because you can adapt and build your instructional delivery from this knowledge. The more you know the more targeted you can be. Gary
