About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Edward, You have a great medium to work with and you understand clearly how it can be used for maximum effectiveness. You are appealing to so many different learning preferences that your students have to be impressed with what they are able to accomplish while in your class. Gary
Hi Eric, Good to hear. The more you know about how students process information the more you will be able to target their learning preferences. Gary
Hi Karen, Good approach. Learners like variety so the more you can offer instruction in their different learning preferences the more they will retain the content. Gary
Hi Beth, What are some some strategies you use to get your students working together in learning groups or on case studies. Gary
Hi Mary, A great point that we need to remember as we are working with our non-traditional students. They need some reassurance that they can and will be successful if they put forth the effort. We humans are much like puppies at times. With a little recognition and attention our tails will start to wag. Gary
Hi Beth, This is bringing the human component into the classroom. We are perk up when we know someone cares about us and our success. Gary
Hi Crystal, Being consistent is critical for teachers. By having consistency as one of your goals I know you are going to make great progress in this direction. I wish you much teaching success. Gary
Hi Harry, Great to hear about your teaching success and effectiveness. This is what a master educator should be about. The fact you are still striving for increased instructional skill is evidence that you are both a teacher and student at heart. I wish you many more years of teaching success. Gary
Hi Donna, So true. Instructors need to start working on making students feel accepted and comfortable from the very beginning. Gary

An effective way of helping students to develop their critical thinking skills is to have them work through case studies.  You can create case studies out of your own career experiences or by talking with other professionals in the field and see how they handled different situations or problems. You may want to create a file where you store examples and/or potential case study ideas for development later on.  You will be surprised at how quickly this file will fill up with topics that can be developed into case studies.
