About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Hazel, Good way to connect the dots for students. You are showing the application and relevancy of your course content to your students with these examples. Gary
Hi Hazel, Right you are. What are some strategies you can share with us in how you show your excitement and passion for your field? Thanks for your input on this. Gary
Hi Carla, Well said about practice in relation to developing as a teacher. I have been teaching for many years and I am always introducing new concepts or strategies into my courses. This keeps me fresh and excited about what I am teaching. This makes it a win for me and a win for my students. Keep up the good work. Gary
Hi Christella, Right you are. What are some ways you do this in your classes? Thanks for your input on this. Gary
Hi Warren, All three very good points and reinforces why every instructor needs to have a well prepared syllabus. It makes everyone happier by knowing what is going to occur in the course. Gary
Hi Nastassia, So true and so important. A well prepared syllabus as you know saves so much time and frustration because it informs the students what is going to occur and what the standards are for the course. With this information the students can focus on doing the work and meeting the deadlines. Gary
Hi Angelica, Right you are. We can never forget that we are being looked upon as being models of our field. The students will reflect the model we put before them so we need to make sure we are showing our students the very best professional that a person can be in this field. Gary
Hi Mary, Spoken like a true educator. We all need to enjoy when the light comes on. This is what keeps us coming back to the classroom year after year. In your field accuracy and dedication is needed to make sure that the billing process keeps moving forward so you are right about how they need to start thinking like coders. Gary
Hi Doug, Well said. Clear goals and objectives work for everyone. There is accountability on both sides when everyone knows what the outcomes are to be and how they will be measured. Gary
Hi Joan, You make a number of good points in terms of getting the content to the point that students can really internalize it as well as make it a part of their working memory. Yes, we may need to go back over the material several times but that is ok because the students get to process it to the point they can see the relevancy of what they are being taught. Gary
