About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Laura, Thanks for sharing your experience with us and how you are planning your next steps in offering structure to what your students will be learning in your course. This information will be valuable to other instructors as they develop their own format for how they will be teaching. Thanks. Gary
Hi Azita, You are going to do great as an educator based upon your forum comments. You have a big picture view of what an instructor needs to be like and focus on while teaching. Keep on the lookout for strategies you can use as you expand your teaching expertise and experience and you will have a successful career as an instructor. I wish you much teaching success. Gary
Hi Rebecca, Good point and as you say one we need to always keep in mind. If we do we will be able to earn the respect of our students while establishing rapport with them. With these two things in place then growth will occur and success will come the way of the student. Gary
Hi Harry, Good to hear about how you are striving to expand your instructional expertise. I have been teaching for many years as well and you are right on with your comment about how you/we continually learn something new each time we teach. Gary
Hi Linda, Good strategies. Students like and need variety when receiving content. With variety of instructional delivery the students have their learning preferences appealed to and this helps to keep them engaged. Gary
Hi Lynda, Good way to connect the dots for your students. This way the parts of their educational experience starts to come together and they see the big picture. They also learn that they need to call upon their support systems when times get difficult. Gary
Hi Marie, Good plan. These efforts will enable you to expand your expertise while increasing your abilities to be an effective and efficient instructor. Gary
Hi Shannon, You have a very good strategy for building both the skills and the confidence of your students. You are offering different methods of knowledge development which keeps them engaged. Good job of offering comprehensive instructional opportunities. Gary
Hi Lisa, That would be tough. Having one student for that long of period over and over again would be a tutoring session as you mention. There are a lot of things you can do to help the student move forward but when it comes to certain activities it would be challenging. Hope you can get some numbers going in your classes before too long where you can use some interactive learning group strategies to the benefit of both you and your students. Gary
Hi Dale, Like the word. With structure some many other things flow into the class sequence. By keeping the students informed you reduce their frustrations and give them expectations that are realistic. Gary
