About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Sabrina, You are so right with your statements of what you bring to the classroom. You are showing them what a professional in their field should look and act like which is an important part of their career development. Gary
Hi Janae, Well said. You are demonstrating to your students what a person in the field should be like. Gary
Hi Martin, Well said. You are helping them to acquire not only the technical skills needed for success but the soft skills as well. Both are important for career success. Gary
Hi Gary, Good advice about how to set boundaries with students. They need to know and realize that they have to meet deadlines and that there are consequences when they don't. That is real life and we are preparing them for careers so they need this part of career preparation pounded home to them. Gary
Hi Cyndy, Good observations about how support systems are set up and used. You are right about the differences between the different ages of students. You have some very good advice contained in this forum and I encourage you to continue sharing it with your students. You are right all we have at the end is family so we need to treat each other with respect and help each other when help is needed. Gary
Hi Kevin, I like your approach for getting a class started. You have a supportive and enjoyable way of getting the students feeling comfortable about what is going to occur in the course. Gary
Hi Wendi, This is a nice comfortable way of introducing your rules to the students. This way you can get the course off to a good start with everyone on the same page. Gary
Hi All, Many great ideas on how to make sure the students receive, review and respond to the syllabus. This is so important in establishing the operational format for the course. By knowing the policies, expectations and requirements from day one the students can focus on being successful. Gary
Hi Evelyn, Good way to set the stage for the upcoming course. This way the students know what the expectations are for the course and what they are going to be expected to do to be successful. Gary
Hi Carolyn, Good comments about repeat and remind needs. Even though the students are preparing for their futures by taking these courses, they seem to drift away when it comes to assignments and deadlines. You have a comprehensive approach to getting them to meet those deadlines. Keep up the good work. Gary
