About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Carolyn, Excellent description of a dynamic and exciting class. Sounds like your have your students engaged from the beginning to end of class. It is a lot work teaching but the pay offs are great when at the end of the class you know it hit a home run with your students that day. Thanks for sharing your strategies with us. Gary
Hi James, This is so true and important for instructors to remember as they plan their instruction. They need to create a connection with the students so they know the reasons for enrollment. Once this reason is known then instructors can build on that as they develop rapport with the students. Gary
Hi Lorraine, Good points about how to combine the different deliveries into maximum learning opportunities for your students. These different exposure points are critical if students are going to stay engaged and focused. Gary
Hi Lana, Good point about instructor excitement. We aren't excited it is for sure the students won't be and why should they. We need to bring enthusiasm to the classroom every time we meet the class. Gary
Hi Benjamin, Right you are about first impressions. The students need to see that they are getting value from their tuition. By knowing they have a well prepared and qualified instructor leading the class they can get settled into the course and be ready to learn. Gary
Hi Melissa, Good point and one we instructors all need to keep in mind when we approach a new class. Thanks for sharing this point with us. Gary
Hi Diane, Good way to show relevancy to your students. This approach shows the students how they can apply the content they are learning to their future careers. Gary
Hi Guillermo, Thanks for sharing this great strategy for offering instruction on Excel use. These kinds of strategies are of real help to other instructors. I know they will enjoy using ideas like this. Gary
Hi Guillermo, That is what I call connecting the dots. You are drawing a picture in the minds of students by showing them how what they are learning will mean success to them in their careers. This is a critical learning step. Gary
