About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Patricia, Sometimes you aren't able to. They simply won't make it in the course. What do do when I see a problem like this starting I talk individually to the student to see what the situation is and if I can be of any help. Often this personal approach and the fact that I am interested in their success is enough to get them coming back to class. I also reach out to them via technology to let them know they are missed and that I will welcome them back. Gary
Hi Nancy, Right you are. A supportive environment really contributes to student comfort and engagement. Gary
Hi Donald, This sounds like such an innovative and exciting way to teach stats. I am sure you had the students engaged in the process in spite of the opinions of your overseers. Congratulations on analyzing and adapting your instruction to meet the needs of your students. Gary
Hi Mary, I love hearing stories like this. I congratulate you on your life successes. You are an example and model that can be used by students to get their own motivation going when they start to get discouraged and tired about half way through the course. Gary
Hi Douglas, Good way to help get your students settled into the course and familiar with both their classmates and you. Student rapport is important to establish as quickly as possible and you are doing that in an effective manner. Gary
Hi Douglas, Well put in terms of relating your own life experiences, both challenges and successes to the students. This way they know you understand where they are coming from. Sometimes they think instructors are not human so they have never encountered any life challenges. Gary
Hi Douglas, Well said in relation to tailoring your instructional delivery to match the needs of your current student population. All of these variables need to be factored in just as you say so you and your students can stay focused on the outcomes. Gary
Hi Ester, Good plan for offering variety and engagement to and for your students. This approach will help to keep them focused on the content. Gary
Hi Shauna, Good strategy for getting and then using student input. This way the students see how you are using the feedback they give you. Gary
Hi Donald, Very true. All of these demonstrations of professionalism need to come together if the students are going to see that they have a dedicated instructor. Gary
