About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Susan, Good for you in terms of sneaking this very important component on learning preferences. Knowing about them and doing some self examination is very important for students as they start a new course. Gary
Hi Mirela, Good points about how the challenges of instruction have expanded beyond just delivering content and hoping the students get it. We are much more in the mentoring and supportive side of learning today. So the more we can develop rapport with our students the higher the level of engagement is going to be. Gary
Hi Edwardo, So true. The affirmation by the instructor is very important to student success and motivation. Gary
Hi Blake, I agree. Changing things up help to make content delivery more exciting for both the students and the instructor. If we become bored with our delivery it is for sure the class will be for out students. Gary
Discussion Comment
Hi Edwardo, So true. We need to really take to heart student feedback so we can continually improve as educators. Gary
Hi Harry, Good to hear about all of the instructional experience you bring to the classroom. With this experience base you can experiment with other forms of delivery and that lets you be creative with your teaching. I think this is one of the really fun parts of being a teacher. Gary
Hi Patti, Right you are about instructor excitement. If we don't bring it to the classroom it isn't going to happen. We must keep this in our minds each time we teach. Gary
Hi Gene, Thanks for sharing this example of how a change in the delivery format has resulted in increased student involvement. This is what good instructional planning is all about. Gary
Hi Ellory, Good way to offer variety to the learning process for your students. The example you cited is a good was to get the students to remember words. Creating connections in their minds is what learning retention is all about. Gary
Hi Nastassia, Yes, the can by being excited just as you mention. This is so important to the learning process because if the instructor doesn't care then the students won't. Gary
