About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Henry, I'm not following exactly what you are talking about in terms of the course content being boring so if you can give me a little more information I will be glad to help. Are you able to use learning groups, special assignments, case studies or anything along this line to help the students to see relevancy and application to what they are learning. What is the subject area you are teaching? Thanks for your input on this. Gary
Hi Henry, Good way to approach the way different students follow the course polices. So get it quickly and others need ongoing reminders. Gary
Hi Henry, Good professional development plan. I know you are going to enjoy the new knowledge you will gain while interacting with other professionals in your field. This will help you to bring excitement back to your classroom. Gary
Hi Henry, Good strategy. This is what customizing instruction is all about. This way you can capture the attention of your students and keep them engaged. Gary

I have taught subjects that were perceived as being boring so I ramped them up their activities, games, and problem solving groups. You might consider using some of these things to segment your instruction and generate some student excitement. Gary
Hi Linda, Well said. That is what it is all about. With our quick results culture this is a concept that our students often miss. Keep your excitement level high as you are and you will continue to impact the lives of your students. Gary
Hi Olakunle, Good professional development plan. This way you remain current and excited about your field and helping students become successful. Gary

Hi Althea, I admire you for your willingness to assume this most difficult task. Ten years ago they closed my department and transferred me to another one. I had to develop and teach courses out of my field just as you have experienced. It was a challenge and I thought about it long and hard. In the end I decided I would take up the challenge and become the best teacher I could. I love to learn so I self educated myself in the area and developed a wide variety of instructional activities. The end result is that I did… >>>

Hi Olakunle, What has been some of your most successful strategies in keeping students engaged? Gary
