About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Maryrose, Students really like hearing these stories and thinking through them, don't they? The more examples we can give them the greater their application of course content is going to be. Gary
Hi Krisy, Well said. The key is to see yourself in the content. So the more activities we have and discussions we hold to show students how they fit into the field and the course the greater the completion rate is going to be. Gary
Hi Dixie, You are on the right path with your planning and activities. I hear the same speech from my students. The more you can do to show application and relevancy the greater their appreciation of English skills will be. I collect as you do stories about what has happened as a result of poor communication both oral and written. I share these with my students at key points throughout the course. They like the stories and make the connection about the need for effective communication. Gary
Hi Donald, Good point. With this type of preparation and organization you are sending all of the right signals to your students. They know you are there for them and in return they must put forth the effort needed to be successful. Gary
Hi Maryrose, So true. It is like a "tell" in a poker game. Their faces let you know if you and they are in sink with each other. These are the moments in teaching I really love. Everyone on the same page and teachable moments are everywhere. This is what it is all about. Gary
Hi Pamela, Good balance to your instructional delivery. You are offering variety and activity as a part of the learning process. As you know students need this to say engaged. Gary
Hi Mohammed, How do you do that when you start a new class of students? Thanks. Gary
Hi Rich, Congratulations for helping your students to become proficient at respecting and listening to others. You are modeling behaviors that they will need when they are in the workforce. Gary
Hi Timothy, Thank you for these comments. They are right on in terms of how to keep students engaged and focused on the learning process. Gary
Hi June, They sure do. If they can see application and relevancy to what they are being taught then their motivation levels are going to be much higher. It helps them to connect the dots between their education and their future. Gary
