About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Linda, Good observational skills for an instructor new to teaching. Keep honing your observational skills and reading of students. Both of these skills will serve you well as you strive to customize your instruction to meet the different learning needs in your classroom. Gary
Hi Kathleen, Good for you. You have a great plan for starting a new course off on the right foot. The greeting them with a handshake and learning their names quickly are like money in the bank for students. You will have their respect right from the start and can continue to build on this respect throughout the course. This will help you and them when some challenges come up later on in the course. Gary
Hi Ali, Guest speakers and field trips are powerful motivators for students. The more you can have professionals from their field come in and tell their stories the more impact your course content will have on your students. Gary
Hi Wayne, This is a good strategy to use because it helps the students to stay focused on you and what you are saying. Gary
Hi Charisma, This is where your skills at customizing your instructional approach becomes so important. As a result you can zero in on your current student population and keep them engaged. Gary
Hi Charisma, Good way to bring the students into the educational setting. You are demonstrating your willingness to listen and respond to their input. This is a good start to earning their respect. Gary
Hi Henry, With clear expectations you can get your students focused on their opportunities to be successful in the course. This is what builds respect between you and your students. Gary
Hi Kathleen, Right on in relation to coming into the class ready to teach. This is the way a professional educator presents him or herself to students. Gary
Hi Sarah, All of the above will work to your favor in relation to creating rapport with your students while earning their respect. You are going to do great in the classroom. I wish you the best in your teaching career. Gary
Hi Sarah, Good point and important one for instructional planning. Do what ever you can to show the students relevancy and application in relation to content being studied. Gary
