About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Cynthia, Good way to keep the class moving forward while you are keeping the students engaged throughout the class session. This is always a challenge for instructors and you have got the approach that helps your students with learning success. Gary
Hi Theresa, I am always amazed at how hard adult students will work for smiley faces. We are really just kids at heart no matter our age. Gary
Hi Theresa, This is what learning is all about. I like the way you offer variety in your repetition efforts. This way the students can really seal the content into their working memories. Gary
Hi Theresa, I like the point about passion for their field. If we have it we can share that passion with them and make it more than just a course that gives them content. Gary
Hi Theresa, Right you are. This is one of the obligations as well as challenges to what we do. We need to plan content and activities that enables the students to learn and stay engaged throughout the class session. Gary
Hi Theresa, The human side of being an educator is very important for the students to know. This way they know you want them to be successful and will be supportive if they will put forth the needed effort. Gary
Hi Kimberly, All good ways to get them feeling welcomed to the course and settled into the first meeting. Gary
Hi Elaine, This is what good teaching is about. With a well developed syllabus you will reduce many questions by students. They can see the course expectations and concentrate on getting settled into the course much quicker. Gary
Hi Theresa, We are authority figures and we need to be supportive when we can. Our approval can be a powerful motivator for students that may be on the verge of leaving school. Gary
Hi Robert, Yes, we do but we often don't due to the pressures of our work. So we need to stop now and then and reflect on what we are doing and how we are doing it. By making a few changes we can once again capture the excitement of our field. Gary
