About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi John, This is a very important point and glad you brought it up. Yes, everyone has their learning preferences but to rise to the next level of success a person has to be able to take in content through other venues. So the more students develop this ability the greater their success will be so you are doing them a great service by helping them to do just that. Gary
Hi Melissa, Welcome to teaching. I wish you much success as you move through your career as a professional educator. I can tell from your comments that you are excited about having the chance to impact the lives of your students while helping them achieve their career goals. Gary
Hi Susan, Study love hearing stories from their instructors. The stories help to reinforce the human side of being an educator. This starts the development of respect and rapport for both you and the students. Gary
Hi Melissa, Good way to read your students and recognize what is working with them in terms learning strategies. This is the way you can keep expanding your student outreach and involve everyone in the learning process. Gary
Hi Susan, Good strategy for using your assessments for learning tools. Through the feedback the students are getting the right answers plus know why some of their answers were wrong. This gives them additional information upon which they can build their knowledge base. Gary
Hi Deborah, Having fun and helping the students to interact with each other is very important. Doing an ice breaker at the beginning of a new course can really help everyone to get settled into the course. Gary
Hi Deborah, Students need these types of reviews so they will keep up with assignments and due dates. They seem to have, as many of us do, short memories. Gary
Hi Joel, So true if you are going to effective in the different settings and with the different student populations. Good point for us all to remember as move throughout our teaching settings. Gary
Hi Deborah, Yes, use as many as you can because students want and need variety in their learning sequence. This will keep them engaged at a higher level. Gary
Hi Ellen, So true. There are many issues and factors at play in the learning process of adults. They face situations that impact whether they will stay in school, be successful and graduate. We need to be as supportive as is possible if we are to help them overcome these challenges and continue on their educational pathway. Gary
