About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Joseph, Excellent! A well prepared syllabus answers many questions and reduces confusion on the part of students. It gives a starting point for discussion about how the course is going to operate. It is the road map for the coming class session. Gary
Hi Jamie, All good ideas of how to better influence and impact students. By showing the human side of being an educator you are making a connection with the students and demonstrating to them they are valued. This sets the stage for respect which then can be developed both directions. Gary
Hi Susan, Such a simple thing can bring such great results. Gary
Hi Jamie, This is critical because your students are preparing for their careers. This have to have the knowledge and skills that will enable them to be successful. They need to understand the standards that you are enforcing because these standards are what are going to help them achieve their career goals. Gary
Hi Jeremy, Good strategy. The more you can connect the content to their lives the higher the retention is going to be for the students. Gary
Hi Lisa, Good point and one that many colleges are really working on. They are adding additional support services for their students to help the students to remain in school in spite of the challenges that might come. Gary
Hi Robby, Students really like this real life stories don't they? They help to make the content real to them. Gary
Hi Robby, So true. If we don't bring the excitement to the classroom it is not going to come. So each time the class meets we need to be on the top of our game and enjoy having the opportunity to teach. Gary
Hi John, Your instructional style and how it is developed is based upon your personality and your perception of how you should deliver course content. It ties into your lesson plan development, assessments and all the other aspects of instructional delivery. The best way to refine your style is to keep notes within your lesson plans on what works, what doesn't and how you want to improve. Then you can focus on the improvement areas the next time you teach the course and it becomes a win win for everyone without taking a lot of time. Gary
Hi Sandra, Good strategies for providing your students with the latest content in the field. You know the students need a certain level of content even if they don't so by keeping them involved and active you are helping them to get that knowledge while developing their skills. Gary
