About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Michelle, Students need constant reminders about upcoming deadlines and due dates. So the more you can keep these dates in front of them the more likely they will meet them. Good job of reminding them on an ongoing basis. Gary
Hi Cynthia, Good to hear that you have a well thought out approach to the first class meeting. I used the signed contract with my classes for the reasons mentioned with good results and I know you are going to see the same thing when you use this method. Gary
Hi Jon-Paul, Right you are. We need to always keep the words, application and relevancy in our minds as we develop our lesson plans and select content. Gary
Hi Robert, Good strategy for professional development. It is a constant growing opportunity because after we teach a course we can reflect on what did and did not go like we wanted and work to bring change and improvement the next time we teach. Gary
Hi Anita, Keep your zeal for learning and you will continue to grow. This is the fun part of being a teacher. We get to learn twice, once as a student and then again when we learn more about the topic as we prepare to teach. Gary
Hi Cynthia, Good point. Knowing right up front sets the stage for success and reduces frustration about whether or not an individual can be successful in the course. Gary
Hi Cheryl, This is a great story and one I can relate to. My brother-in-law is one of the grab it and go vacationers. My sense of order doesn't allow me to be that way. I want my agenda planned out which gives me piece of mind as I travel. This is why your point about what our students need is such a good one. They do need to see how the course will unfold and what the expectations are. This way they can focus on being successful without wondering what the requirements are. Gary
Hi Jim, Thanks for the good words. I wish you much teaching success. Gary
Hi Jon-Paul, Right you are. With this form of segmenting the students can build on what they are learning as they put together the complete chain of concepts and principles of the field. Gary
Hi Elise, What a great way to start a class off. You are helping the students get settled into the course while sharing your human side so they can see you as a professional that loves her field and is looking forward to sharing it with them. Gary
