About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Lisa, Well said. Excitement is catching and we don't bring it they won't catch it. I wish you much success with your teaching. Gary
Hi Krista, Students like application and relevancy in their teaching so the more you can provide this instructional format the greater the retention of content will be. Gary
Hi Lisa, This approach gives you insight into your students and helps with the development of respect and rapport with them. This sets the foundation for a very successful course. Gary
Hi Michael, Comfortable and low stress introductions and ice breakers do so much to set the stage for a positive class. Good point about what it can do for the students. Gary
Hi Peter, Good point and thank you for sharing it. The students need to be on a vision quest in relation to their future. They have to want success and then work hard to get it if they are going to be successful. A quote I like is "10% of life is what we make it and 90% is how we take it." Gary
Hi Michael, Good point. The students need opportunities to connect the dots between the content they are learning and the real world where they are going to apply it. So the more experiences you can provide them to do this the greater their retention is going to be. Gary
Hi LaToya, Good points in relation to class management. By setting the stage on how the class will operate from the first day the opportunity for the class to move forward in a positive manner is greatly enhanced. This allows for more instruction time and less need for behavior management. Gary
Hi Julia, Great idea! This helps the students to see both application and relevancy to what you are teaching and what they are learning in the course. Gary
Hi Julia, You make a good point about helping students to be successful. Through understanding and support we instructors can help them see that success can be theirs if they are willing to put forth the effort. Gary
Hi Cynthia, Good strategy. Learners need variety and change of pace as they move through content. The more you can do this the greater the content retention is going to be. Gary
