About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Salenna, True. Students need to have a sense of comfort about the class. If they know they have the respect and support of the instructor they can work on relationships with other students to the benefit of all. Gary
Hi Crystal, Good plan and I am sure it will work well for you. You are using a variety of activities in different settings to give your students a chance to use their learning preferences. Gary
Hi Tom, This is a good approach and I think that you will have good learning results. The more variety you have in your delivery the greater opportunity your students will have to be engaged and focused in the learning process. Gary
Hi Kenneth, Thanks for sharing this information. Yes, your approach will be a good start in getting your students engaged and focused on the learning process. Gary
Hi Kenneth, Thanks for sharing this strategy and example. Having a student in class that was involved in the case had to make that discussion come alive to the benefit of everyone. Gary
Hi Kenneth, Thank you for this overview and information about the brain. I have been teaching and research learning for many years and it seems that everyday I am constantly amazed at the brain and how it operates. I am like you in that we know so little about the brain so I am amazed that we are able to learn anything at all. Gary
Hi Sarah, Good point. You can feel confident when you enter the classroom because of the time and effort you have invested in planning. Gary
Hi Kimberly, Good approach. This method also sets you at ease as you enter the classroom because you know you know what you know as well as knowing you can deliver the content well. Gary
Hi Summer, Congratulations for a job well done! I teach required courses as well. If the students do not pass my courses they will not be able to get their certifications so they come in with a bit of an edge. I strive to get them involved as you are doing and the results have been very good. I like the comment your students pay you. For them to enjoy a core course and see application of it to their lives is a great way to get them to see the value of their entire educational program. Gary
Hi David, Congratulations for being able to keep everything straight in your head. There aren't many outstanding instructors that can do that. For the rest of us that need to have things planned out and in order the use of lesson plans are a critical way of bringing order to the learning sequence. I have over 300 students every 12 weeks so with this volume of students plus all the assignments, field trips, guest speakers and content having lesson plans really help me to be able to stay on target with my courses. Gary
