About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Ray, Well said. Through good planning you will know what you want to do and when distractions occur you can overcome them and keep the course moving forward. Gary
Hi Rick, Yes, it is a challenge to get and hold their attention but that is one of the fun parts of teaching. It becomes a game to see what will capture their focus and then build on it. Gary
Hi Susie, Good comments about how to get students to retain information. The color coding of critical content really helps with retention. Anything you can do like share a story related to the new content will help with memory storage for students. Gary
Hi Cynthia, The key is to get the students settled into the course and feeling comfortable as you say. Sounds like you have a good plan for making this happen while supporting them from the very first day of class. Gary
Hi Lillie, Good points about positive first impressions. I can only imagine how stressful it was to have a course added at the last minute so preparation time was very limited. Sounds like as a true professional you were able to rally and make the best of it while still making a positive first impression. Gary
Hi Mark, I want to take your class. Excitement and enthusiasm are two things that need to be a part of each instructor's instructional planning. Keep up the good work and I wish you much teaching success. Gary
Hi Mark, Congratulations on enjoying your students and teaching. I like your style probably because it is mine as well. We laugh and have fun but are very serious about our learning in the course. At the end it is a positive experience for everyone. Gary
Hi Sandra, You give your students a balanced picture of you as an instructor. You let them see your professional side while also showing your human side. This is a nice blend because instructors are developing not only the knowledge base in students but the soft skills as well. Gary
Hi Brittany, Good points! All of them help to contribute to student engagement and enhanced learning. Confidence built is learning increased and this leads to higher levels of motivation just as you say. Gary
Hi Helen, Is this after you have covered polices and requirements of your course and given them a copy of the syllabus? Thanks for your follow up on this. Gary
