About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Curtis, This is one of my favorite ways of teaching as well. As you know the students really get into problem based learning because they can make applications and see relevancy. Gary
Hi Danielle, Good way to poll your class to get a read on why they are there. I like your method of providing support for those students with challenges because this way they will have a chance for success if they are willing to invest the effort. Gary
Hi Robert, I agree with you. No one student has the right to derail the education of others. I have removed students that have refused to work within the course requirements and behaviors. I had a much better class as a result of the removal because the other students realized I had their best interest in mind. Gary
Hi Robert, Thank you for the good points about how to "read" the reasons for student enrollment. This can be a great aid as you mentioned for customizing your instruction to meet that specific group of students. Gary
Hi Susie, I like this approach a lot. This is a great way for them to express their desired outcomes while developing an understanding of how they can be successful in the culinary arts field. Gary
Hi Roger, So true. Once they know the expectations they then can set up a plan for achieving success in the course. Clear expectations also reduce student frustrations since they know what is expected of them. Gary
Hi David, These are great reminders for instructors that teach the same courses over and over again. Thanks for sharing your strategies for keeping your delivery fresh and your excitement high. Gary
Hi Shannon, Not only is this good for the class it is great training for when the students are working with others in the work world. The more skill they have at working with others the greater their career success is going to be. Gary
Hi Henry, Good plan for expanding your instructional delivery options. You are going to be able to offer your students additional learning options that will keep them engaged in the course content. Gary
Hi Angel, Great way of expressing what professionalism is both in and outside of the classroom. We are models of our profession at all times so we need to remember this in relation to how we conduct ourselves in our communities. Gary
