About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Jeannine, Good definition and one that sets the stage for a successful course. By showing your students that you are a professional educator dedicated to their success you are modeling where they themselves can be if they put forth the effort. Gary
Hi All, Many great suggestions for how an instructor can bring excitement and enthusiasm into the classroom and as a result set the stage for student motivation. If the instructor doesn't bring it to the class it isn't going to happen that is for sure. Gary
Hi Bernardita, This is very important. What are some ways you help the students make applications of the course content? Thanks for your input on this. Gary
Hi Adelia, So true. I really like the results that come out of students working together and developing solutions to problems or situations. This is what they will experience in the work world so the more experience they get the more prepared they will be. Gary
Hi Adelia, Good way to give the students the foundation of the course and have them review the basics. The signing of the contract of agreement sets the stage for the next step in the learning process. Gary
Hi Shawnte, Good point. These individual counsel times are some of the most important teaching opportunities you and the student have to share. They really help to build rapport as well because you are there to provide them support as needed. Gary
Hi Sandra, I am a big user of field trips and guest speakers. Thank you for comments about how they assist you in your instructional delivery. The student presentations are a way to build self confidence and personal growth. You have some very good methods going for you. Gary
Hi Fred, I think I need to take your course because I cannot make sense of anything related to health insurance in my personal life. But, I am sure you hear that from many of the people you work with. As for your teaching method, good job. As complex and technical as much of what you are teaching is, having a way for your students to acquire the knowledge so they are comfortable in discussing it is to be commended. Gary
Hi Curtis, Right on. This is the key to student engagement and retention. They need to see the value of what they are being taught. Gary
Hi Robert, Well said and such an important part of being a successful instructor. We need to be a model for our students. Gary
