About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi William, I agree with your comments in relation to knowing why a student is enrolled. It really does help with our understanding of how they will be approaching the course. It also helps us to understand the type of motivational support they may need. Gary
Hi Joyce, So true. Simple but the key reason why we are teachers in the first place. We are impacting the futures of our students. Gary
Hi Joyce, So true. Respect and rapport are powerful engagement and retention tools that instructors need to develop and use. Gary
Hi Carla, Right you are. I can this "connecting the dots". You are helping the students to see application and relevancy when you bring in life experiences in relation to content being studied. Gary
Hi Paula, Thank you for sharing this example of the value of a well prepared syllabus. Planning saved the day for everyone and I am sure surprised the cohort group since they didn't have anything to point to as being flawed or lacking. Gary
Hi Chuck, Well said. By helping students to make the connection between the role model they have as an instructor and the field they are preparing to enter students can develop their soft skills to a much greater degree. Gary
Hi Serena, Well laid out plan for reaching your students. You slowly engage in them in the learning process in such a way so as not to scare them off. Gary
Hi Joyce, Yes, you will. You will be able to customize your instructional delivery more as well. The more you know about your students the better you will be able to target your instruction. Gary
Hi Christina, There is a saying that reflects your comments. "To teach is to learn twice." Think about it a little and you see it is true. This is why it is so important to spend some time reviewing the content before each class to make sure we have a clear picture in our minds on how we are going to deliver the content. Gary
Hi Serena, I like your saying and it is so true for educators. We need to be able to adapt and modify our delivery based upon the students we have. As you know each class is different and as a result our delivery has to be different as well. Gary
