While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Kyle, Good to hear about how you approach the classroom for your students. Letting students develop their problem solving skills while learning the needed foundational content is critical to and for success. Gary
Hi Matt, Good point and good that you are reminding the students of their career goals and why they need to stay engaged in the learning process. You are helping them to realize their career goals by encouraging and supporting their efforts. Gary
Hi Jennifer, Right you are. Students become engaged as a result of having opportunities to use their different learning preferences. Gary
Hi Wendy, Student engagement is the key and you are doing that by involving the students through presentations, small groups and other interactions with classmates. Gary
Hi Ariana, Good points and your last sentence really captures it. It helps both the instructor and students to realize the importance of working together to help the students achieve their career goals. Gary
Hi Sara, So true. That is when opinions are formed and it is so much easier to move forward with a positive image rather than trying to dig out of a negative hole. Gary
Hi Sara, Lack of preparation is unprofessional and does not one any good. You make a good point about the need for good planning prior to sharing course content. Gary
Hi Quynh, Good analogy. It really is like a road map. It tells you where you and the student are going and what they will accomplish when they have arrived at the end of the course. Gary
Hi Katherine, Good point. Instructors need to work at getting the students settled into the course and comfortable with the learning process. This will increase their learning satisfaction and retention. Gary
Hi William, Good point. Not only do we need to bring variety to the classroom for our students we need to bring it for ourselves for the reasons you mentioned. Gary
