About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi David, Good plan. This is the kind of instructional variety students need to stay engaged throughout the course. Gary
Hi Julie, These are soft skills and they need to be taught as well as the specific skills. Students need to know how to present themselves once they are in the field so the more help you can provide them in this area the better. Gary
Hi Betsy, I like the way you approach your instructional planning and delivery. You are offering variety to your students and as a result they get to use their different intelligences at different times. This makes for a positive learning environment. Gary
Hi Michael, Good example of how variety can be brought to the classroom via well planned instructional delivery. You are hitting upon many different learning preferences and this will keep the students engaged at a much higher level. Gary
Hi Julie, Good point and one of the main reasons why the syllabus needs to be well prepared. This is the working document for the course so it needs to have accurate information for the students as they work through the course. Gary
Hi Julie, Good way to connect the dots for your students from what they are learning to where they will be using some of the content--their licensing exam. Also, you are showing them relevancy and application to what they are learning which helps to keep them engaged. Gary
Hi Bronwen, Good strategy. Students as you know really like to hear from those that have gone through what they are going through and are successful. So the more examples like this you can share with the students the higher their motivation is going to be. Gary
Hi Daniel, Good points. I agree with your assessment and the cry for common sense as a part of instructional planning. Students need to know how to work with others if they are going to be successful in their careers and to do that they need to know how to do it directly, not through an electronic format. Gary
Hi Michael, Good ideas all. What are some strategies you are going to use to expand your instructional delivery method? Thanks for your input on this. Gary
Hi Michael, Good point and one that all of us instructors need to keep in mind as we develop our content and then format it into our instructional delivery. Gary
