About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Earnest, Right you are. A well prepared syllabus saves so much time and frustration for everyone. Why an instructor wouldn't prepare a good syllabus is beyond my understanding. Gary
Hi Julie, Well said. This shows that you want to earn the respect of your students and you have worked hard in preparing for the class in order to do so. Gary
Hi Karen, Well said. Early and adequate planning is essential for teaching success. Without it the train is going to derail for sure. Gary
Hi John, Thank you for this example of how important it is to have a supportive environment for students. My situation was that they were pouring a new roof on our building one hot day last summer. The smell of the hot tar came in through the vents and it was awful. I ended up having to dismiss class because we just couldn't concentrate in that environment. Gary
Hi Melinda, These are great tools to use with students. They like the opportunity to become involved and share what they have learned with others. Gary
Hi Madeleine, Thank you for the kind words, they are greatly appreciated. We have a wonderful opportunity to share our field with others while impacting lives and get paid for it. This is a great job, isn't it? Gary
Hi Earnest, I agree with your approach. Students like variety in delivery and it helps to keep them engaged throughout the course sequence. Gary
Hi Linda, So true. Excitement is catching. The more we can bring it to our classrooms the more our students will be engaged. Gary
Hi Linda, I like to have this information as well. It really does help in the approach one takes in working with a student. It makes it easier for us to help them connect the dots between class and the real world. Gary
Hi Joe, Good point and one from which your students will receive much value. They will see the connection between content and their lives at a much greater level because of the personal nature of the applications. Gary
