About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Khalid, Yes, students are in need of seeing examples of what a professional should be like in their field. The key professional in the classroom is the instructor and they will model how the instructor acts as they develop their own style of working with patients. Gary
Hi Aprilyn, These different methods of reinforcing content are a good way to keep the students engaged. Math is a challenge for many students as you know so by having them work in the class on problems you can help them get the procedures and steps down in their minds for future use. Gary
Hi Tiffany, A well prepared syllabus as you know saves a lot of time and frustration on the part of everyone. It lays out the course requirements, expectations and policies. This helps the course to move forward because of the understanding the students have about the course as a result of the syllabus. Gary
Hi Larry, By all means keep the humor. You are right math does need some laughs. This is coming from a person that sees no humor in math only terror. Gary
Hi Larry, Good strategy. The more application they can see the greater the impact the content is going to have on the students and the higher the retention of content is going to be. Gary
Hi Larry, Guest speakers make a great impact on students. They show the students the future they have waiting for them if they will put forth the effort. Your comments are right on in terms of how the guest speakers help to motivate students in a subject, algebra, that in many cases is feared by students. Gary
Hi Jennifer, I like to use study/learning groups as well for the same reasons you do. They really help students to learn to work together just as they will in their careers. Gary
Hi Nicole, Can you expand on your comment about open communication as a way to instruct a student? Thanks for your input on this. Gary
Hi Clarence, Seeing someone that has made it through the class they are in and is successful is powerful as you say. The seeing and listening to a role model is a great motivator. Thank you for your comments on how to create situations for students success. Gary
Hi Jim, Making that connection for students is critical. This lets them see the ROI that they are getting for their time and money. Gary
