About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Jennifer, This is very true. Adult students bring to the classroom some very impacting life situations. We need to be aware of how we can support our students when faced with these challenges and yet keep them moving forward in their learning. Gary
Hi Kristin, A dedicated instructor is one that is constantly working to expand his/her expertise. Your comments cover strategies for how this can be done. As a result teaching becomes a much more effective process for students. Gary
Hi Niani, This is a good strategy to follow because you enter the class the next day full of confidence about what you are going to teach. This review process helps you to be able to introduce new information on an as needed basis as well. Gary
Hi Connie, Good advice for all instructors to follow. Thanks for sharing it with us. Gary
Hi Melanie, The time you spend on developing a relationship with each student is well worth it as you know. The human factor is a big part of teaching success. Gary
Hi Connie, Thank you for your comments about understanding students and they understanding you. Relationships are important in the classroom so instructors need to work on developing them. Your experiences as both an instructor and student help to reinforce what you are saying to your current students. Gary
Hi Evangeline, Good approach because students really like to hear about what they are learning will be applied in the careers. These stories help to keep them motivated and engaged. Gary
Hi Jim, What are some ways you keep your students engaged in the subject matter that you can share with other instructors. Thanks for you input on this. Gary
Hi Jim, How do you set the tone for the rest of your course with your first impression? Thanks for your input on this. Gary
Hi Khalid, Well said about first impressions. We need to always keep this in mind as we start a new class. We need to ask ourselves "How are the students viewing us?". Gary
