About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Teresa, It sure can. Knowing that at the end of the program that a person can move into a rewarding career is a powerful motivator. We need to capitalize on this as much as we can. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Jessica, I like getting and using this information as well. It really helps me in making a connection with the students because I can pull up their life experiences and use them as a part of their success trail in the class. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Afshan, Good suggestion because many students come to college without good study skills. They need help in organizing themselves in a way that will enable them to be successful in the class. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Tom, Environmental issues can either support or diminish learning opportunities for students. So the more we provide a positive learning environment the greater their engagement is going to be. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Bobbe, Thank you for sharing this strategy with us. Sounds like a great way to get through material that may not be the most exciting but is essential for student success. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Allison, Wow, that would wake me up knowing that someone was going to inject me with anesthesia. Talk about wanting to make sure I know how skilled they are as well as my own skill set before poking holes in each other. Great way to motivate them. Thanks for sharing this example. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Alfonso, The more "real life" you can bring to the classroom the easier the transition to employment is going to be for the students. Keep up the good work you are doing making it real for them. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Teresa, This is a powerful concept to understand. Knowing you are "valued" and that your ideas are "listened to" are keys to retaining students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Yamil, Good strategy. This way the students will continue to contribute the class discussions because they know their ideas will be listened to. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
