About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Travis, I like your approach to working with your students. The key is to be supportive but as you mention they must want it for themselves. If they don't we can try to motivate them but they must put forth the effort and energy to be successful. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Judy, Good way to help them ease into a new class. They need to have their fears reduced and their questions answered. This way they can concentrate on the upcoming course. Sounds like you do a very good job of orienting them to the class. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Hannah, This is so important. A little personal contact goes a long way in keeping students engaged in the learning process. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Guy, Thank you for sharing this example of instructor flexibility with us. We do need to "read" and be responsive to our students as we progress through the course. This way we can customize our instruction as we need to in order to meet their needs. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Hannah, Yes, you will and this will help with creating rapport with the students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
MANOJ, So important because it shows both relevancy and application to what is being taught. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Elidon, Right you are about the value that comes from clear goals and objectives. They are the road map to course success. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Gilbert, You are using a number of very good strategies to keep your students engaged. You are right about the need to always remain flexible in your approach because no two days are ever the same in teaching as you well know. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Robert, Great to hear and I know you are going to have much teaching success with your attitude of wanting to help. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kennedy, Can you expand on this. I'm not exactly clear on what you are sharing with us in these comments. Thanks for your input. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
