About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Elizabeth, Thank you for these good comments about how to establish a supportive environment in the classroom. This is critical if the students are going to stay in the course for the duration. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Mohammed, All critical components of successful teaching. When an instructor brings these behaviors into the classroom the chances for success are greatly enhanced. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Alfonso, It sounds like you create a very supportive and engaging environment in your classes. This is so important and I can tell by your comments you are having much success in keeping your students focused on what is happening in the course. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Christopher, I teach a night course that starts at 7 and I have the same challenge. The students are tired after working all day and have their stomachs full. They want to curl up in their seats and be left alone to sleep, but still pass the course. So I have to pull out all the stops and make the class interesting and engaging while keeping their attention focus on their passing the class. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kim, This is a good way to personalize the syllabus and show your students the importance you attach to the contents. This way they will be more apt to follow the contents of the syllabus than ask you over and over again what comes next. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Lynda, This is a good way to personalize a company produced syllabus. You are following the set guidelines but are able to add into the mix your own method of operation. This helps to make the syllabus "real" for the students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Teresa, Good to hear about the strategy you are going to implement. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Taunya, Sounds like a good plan that will result with your having expanded experience and expertise as an instructor. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
KIZHAKKEPARAMPIL, Good way to get students settled into the course and feeling welcomed. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Rae Lynne, Right you are. The students need to see the ROI of what is being presented to them so they will associate value to their college experience. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
