About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Shalanda, Good point. This is both external and internal reinforcement. This helps them to see the value and relevancy of what is being taught. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Judy, This is the way to do. You are setting the standard and serving as a role model for your students. This is a critical part of their professional development so the more they can observe you as a professional the more they will understand what a professional really is. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Bonnie, This is a simple but effective way to involve the students and I know it earns their respect because you are listening to them. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Michele, It is little things like that that keeps students in school. They knowing you understand helps them to want to be successful. Keep up the good job of supporting your students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Bonnie, I think this approach is great. Based upon your student population you are targeting their needs and then providing supports and strategies for them to be successful if they are willing to put forth the effort. You are having a great impact on their success as a result. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Bonnie, This is a good way to customize to your audience. You are focusing on them and their learning situations and as a result sounds like you are having good success. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Bonnie, Your content is one of the essential links in the chain of learning for your students. You are doing a good job of getting them to see the long term value of what they are being taught. Keep up the good work. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Linda, I am convinced that adults never grow up. Yes, they like the Bucks as well as the Gold Stars because they have value to them in that setting. I use things like this myself and I am always amazed at how hard a student will work to earn a prize that is similar to the one they earned in kindergarten. (Keeping in mind I will work hard to earn Hershey Kisses myself). Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Richard, All of these introductions are critical in my opinion to getting a course off to a good start. They help everyone to get to know each other while helping them to settle into the course. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Daniel, Good point about the value of a well prepared syllabus. It gives the students direction and the instructor confidence he/she has laid out a course of study for the students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
