About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Ali, All of these activities blend together to help the students get settled into the course. The first day, as you know is so important, and you are helping them find a comfort level within the class. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Sara, Great ideas for improving your teaching skills while keeping your pulse on the class. Thanks for sharing this idea with us. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Lasharon, Right you are. A well prepared syllabus shows the students the value you attach to the contents of your course and how you are going to present it to them. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Tangee, Good point. Students as you know need this type of assurance about the polices, requirements and assignments that are going to be expected of them. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
David, Good way to illustrate to your students the value you attach to the syllabus. This shows them that many of their questions can be answered by looking at the syllabus so they won't be too stressed about topic or content because it is covered. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Martha, Good advice and important for instructors remember as they prepare for their courses. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Timur, These are great ideas for new instructors to think about and implement as a part of their professional development. Shadowing previous professors and/or those in their buildings are great ways to pick up methods that can be used in their own teaching efforts. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Dionne, This is a good way to bring refinement to your instructional style development. The more you can observe others the more choices about delivery styles you will have. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Camille, This is very true. As each finger print is different so is each approach to the classroom. Keep looking for ways to expand your expertise and knowledge base about teaching and you will continue to grow. I wish you continued teaching success. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Tangee, Having students do a demonstration is a good way to get them to build their confidence both as communicators as well as content specialists. The more they can share the more they can see the value of what they are being taught. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
