About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

David, Thanks for helping to learn some French. The concept is a key one. If we don't have our mis ready then we can't expect our students to have theirs. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Suzanne, I am excited about your excitement for expanding your instructional expertise. Keep seeking new methods and strategies as you gain experience in the classroom and lab. You are off to a good start. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Keith, Thank you for the kind words about the course content. I wish you much continued success in teaching and impacting the lives of your students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Lee, Good use of the 3 M's. I like the way you laid them out. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Annette, I like your definition. It reflects the human factor in being an educator. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Denver, Good strategy. I call this "connecting the dots". You are showing the students the value of what they have been and are being taught in relation to their future. The more this can be done the greater appreciation the students are going to have in relation to the education they are receiving. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Sandra, So true. You can continue to build on this first impression throughout the course and earn the respect of the students as well. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Cynthia, Good points about how to establish yourself as a the educational leader in your classroom. The blend of being the leader and expert sets up the understanding that you have a lot to offer the class if they are willing to invest the time and effort to get the content. You are showing your human side as well which is always important in situations like this. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Jodi, In response to your question about having more input on the course syllabus I would talk with your Dean of Instruction. See if there is a curriculum or syllabus committee on your campus. (Many of the syllabi are developed at corporate headquarters). If there is see if you can work with that committee to have input. If that isn't possible then I would suggest you continue to use your lesson plans and supplemental handouts as additions to the supplied syllabus. This way you will be personalizing the course and syllabus to meet your needs. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Martha, Professional organizations like NCTE are valuable for professional growth. Keep up the search for instructional growth and you will enjoy your teaching more and more. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
