There is not a day that I don't hear whining and complaining from my students. I always remind them that there are things that we simply cannot change and that the stress we are faced with are part of the kind of life that we chose. The only thing that we can do is take control, instead of being controlled by stress.

Not all stressors are worth our time and energy. If a stressor has nothing to do with my personal well-being and job performance, I laugh them off. By the way, laughter may not always be the best medicine, but it's good. Things I consider unnecessary stressors are: 1. Gossips Let's be realistic, they do exist as stressors. We can't make them go away, but we can ignore them. 2. Administration Policies First of all, admin policies are meant to be followed, not stress us out. Let's be honest, they are only stressful because they are not according to our wishes.… >>>

One of the reasons why we procrastinate is disorganization. When we know where things are, have a plan, and are motivated, we do not want to procrastinate. There are a number of ways to make teaching life easy and simple if we can come up with SIMPLE strategies that will allow us to complete important routine tasks (grading papers, preparing grade rosters, creating tests, etc.) in no time to get them out of the way so we can work on other important things like continuing education, professional development--like MAX KNOWLEDGE--or just enjoy free time. By creating reusable templates for everything,… >>>

Some of us THINK we know it all, so we tend to overlook the importance of soft skills.  We can learn so much about it from this course.

The very first step in improving my EQ is to acknowledge the fact that I have something that I need to work on. I cannot be too proud to say that "I am good, and others are bad." One of my weaknesses is taking things personally, especially when it comes to dealing with my students. I often get misunderstood when I try to motivate them and push them to give their education their best. Teaching is my passion. I am elated when my students succeed, and I get frustrated when they don't. I know this sounds like a very good… >>>

It was mentioned during the course that when students say, "I can't believe it's time already; I had fun learning in this class," the instructor is effective.  I get that a lot, and I am elated that my teaching style is effective.  HOWEVER, I also get negative feedbacks from students who were previosuly under a Buddy instructor. Being a 50/50 Guide-Controller instructor, I am often regarded as 100% Controller by students who are used to the Buddy and/or Apathete type.  I was even called "evil" by a disruptive and immature student for not allowing him to do as he pleased in… >>>

While it is essential that we instructors must be able to adapt to different styles, we must stick to one objective--quality education for students. Styles must be based on this common goal and not to make our jobs easy. If we don't have a consistent goal, it is going to be a disaster because students compare instructors, and the good ones are always the bad ones for those whose priority is something else.

In an adult-learning environment, lack of professionalism has been of great concern to me.  Let's face it. A number of adult learners expect to be treated like professional adults while behaving otherwise.  It took me a while to understand this.  I often asked myself, "How can I make them see a professional adult in me without sounding conceited?"  Then it hit me.  I realized that I could not do that.  Otherwise, they would see me as the exact person that I don't want them to see me as--a conceited instructor--because I am not.  I just wanted to "teach" them how to behave like… >>>

I agree with Lisa and Lacey. Perfect attendance awards are good motivators too.  This gives average students who hardly or never earn excellent achievement awards a pat on the back for giving importance to being in class 100% of the time.  Retention is extremely important. Numbers initially go down during the "weeding out" phase.  Subsequently, it is essential for instructors to play a major role in keeping the numbers above the line.

Medical Terminology plays a huge part in Medical Coding. Making it easier to learn is just great.
