Listen, listen, and listen.  Ensure there are ground rules from the beginning that no one has the right to disrupt the learning of others in the class.  That the goal is to pass the national certification (NCLEX for nursing) and certain behaviors are NOT attractive in a nurse.

I loved the "card" option and using it wisely.

I'm looking forward to creating an ice breaker that may be individual at first, then utilizing a team.  I also loved the "What's in it for Me?" concept.  That's SO true!!!  By stating how the course fits into their future career and how it will help them with their national certification, I can tie it in nicely and then continue to remind them as we go along.  I also liked the reminders for assignment due dates.  No excuses if I make the reminders!!

In addition to all the acts that supercede FERPA (Solomon, etc...), I learned about the E-Sign Act.  It was passed in the year 2000.

FERPA training should be done on hiring and a refresher with practical applications, should be done annually.  I remember when grade were posted in the student lounge with only a number.  It was easy to figure out who was who!  Glad we can direct them to their course now.

Now I know why I had to be so specific when granting permission to send my official transcripts to an employer!  I always wondered why they needed to know to whom I was sending it and for what purpose.

It is super important to secure a student's educational information.

Victims of sexual violence may behave differently than victime of other types of violence.  To the untrained eye a victim of sexual violence may appear to be lying (likely why it's taken SO LONG for women to be "heard" by law enforcement.  Thank God for training and the MeToo movement!!

This is very detailed and the investigation should be documented properly and coincide with what actually occured during the investigation and what is reported to the OCR.

This is my 3rd academic institution and it's the first time I've heard of Title IX, the Clery Act, VAWA and FERPA.  Glad I'm here.
