Activity

These exercises were very creative!  I can't wait to try them.

These were very creative.  I loved the edible cell.  We could do this with the kidney and lungs, too, with their various structures.

I really liked the Event Cards and the Best/Worst observation for the day (Staff surprises).  I also liked the hand gestures.  Very applicable to real clinical situations.  Thank you.

This content is so useful.  I really loved how the "Brush with Fame" activity can help introduce and reinforce HIPAA.  It makes it personal to the students.  The other activities were also helpful...especially the noticing one.  They likely will think they have to repeat the vacation details and not the visual details, so it will be surprising to them.  Truly enjoyed this one.

Feedback should be based on objectives, but also includes a professional component as you are building them up and shaping them into the employee you would want to hire.  Of course the evaluation should be done privately.

This list could be used when we mentor new staff to our departments, as well!

I had a light-bulb moment while listening to this section.  I have mentored and precepted a number of MSN students to the world of academia.  The last list of "things a supervisor needs to do" was an inspiration.  I did most of them for those students.  The only one I didn't do was the "1 hr of personal mentoring/week" however I think our joint tasks and the time I spent explaining them might count!  Certainly I was proud that MOST of them were eager to join my university as faculty.  And to this day we have a wonderful professional relationship.  … >>>

I like idea of the end-of-internship paper and presentation.  That helps make it more academic.  The weekly journal also elevates it to an academic endeavor while providing the employer valuable feedback.

Internships that match the educational experience enhance the graduates ease into the workforce by exposing them to the corporate world of:  meetings, professional dress, time management, the typical work day and work week schedule...in other words the reality of how  their education will be implemented.

My nephew interned at a number of jobs while in college and then came out making more than me!!  I'm so proud of him.  He's a computer science engineer from Universitiy of Michigan
