The contrast between Title IX and VAWA proceedings and Criminal proceedings is based on the amount and type of evidence collected. Criminal investigations require a preponderance of evidence to proceed to a hearing while Title IX simply requires a complaint and less rigourous proof of the aligation. 

The importance of the Title IX and VAWA acts are that they protect everyone, no matter gender or gender preference from harm or harassment in the education environment. These give the victims a recourse to report the incident, and obtain any assistance needed. They also hold the institution responsible for investigating and determining if a situation was indeed a harassment or violent act against the victim and to proceed as needed and proscribed by Title IX and VAWA for reporting and disciplinary or criminal actions against the person found guilty of doing so. 

When delivering course content, find an organization system that works well for you. Make to do lists, outlines of the lecture, goals, demonstrations ect. Make lecture time 15 minutes then have a discussion or some other activity to keep the students focused and interested. 

Develop ideas on how to make the adult learner feel welcome, keep the mood of the room relaxed and cheerful. Give concise information on expectations and goals and use a fun method to get to know each student. 

Preparation is key to a successful teaching environment. Supplies, space, temperature, etc, meet the most basic of needs (Maslow's Hierarchy) and from there the students can focus on their learning experiences. The syllabus is a very important document. It not only sets the structure of the class for the students but defines the rules, explains the different learning environments, and sets goals and expectations. 

It is important to help your adult students learn by modifying the education to meet their learning needs. Motivation is key and a variety of teaching techniques should be utilized to help reach each student and keep them energized in their learning. 

Life experience stories are excellent ways to keep students engaged and help them connect the information they are learning with a great way to have a visual mental reminder through the story. 

While adult learners like structure to the class so that it is not wasting their time, they also like classes that are interesting and hold their attention. Videos, power point presentations, group activities,etc, keep the forward momentum going and makes the experience of learning more interesting as well as improves comprehention and retention. 

I learned about the expanded areas in both Title IX and VAWA to include sexual orientation definitions. It defines each act of harassment or violence in the acts and gives clear response protocols required by law from the institution about investigation and determination of incidents that are reported. 

Professional developement is an ongoing process that will never stop. Advances in your field or technology will always require you to keep current, learn new skills and applications and continue to grow.
