A bit of an epiphany when it comes to not overloading the student. Keeping the on line unit to one or two main ideas.

The student centered approach is fascinating to me in that you're allowing the more motivated students to gradually step up and lead discussions as the teacher takes on the role more of a moderator.

There are advantages to both synchronous and asynchronous learning. The biggest disadvantage to asynchronous learning is that it requires more self-motivation on the part of the student. Synchronous learning engages students which is a way to motivate them too.

It seems that there is a learning curve when it comes to the utilization of technology in the virtual environment. Certain teaching styles should be reinforced with certain technology.  Not all students learn alike and not all teachers teach alike.
