About me

Activity

I do find the generatinal styles significant. I do find it difficult to understand the constant neet for phones etc. even during inappropriate class times such as project presentation or testing.  I still view that behavior as inappropriate.  I often feel that certain information needs to be reiterated due to lack of focus.

Have a smile on your face.  Take a little time for introduction, overview of the course and encourage students to encourage each other through study groups and explortion of additional resources. Provide a "fun activity or challenge" when possible.

Time to come up with some new activities to increase participation and learning. How about ote cards with a subject for each student is an inexpensive easy way to get started for research and discussion.

Surprise! motivation can be difficult task in adult learners due to so many other demands on their time.  An encouraging enthusiastice attitude on the Instructors part is paramount! I like to include a relevant inspirational quote at the beginning of class and at the end of the term pass out a compilation of quotes for the student's binders.

Enthusiasm can be hard to maintain if the class begins with students who feel they should "be given the answers". These present a particular challenge in promoting intrinsic and extrinsic motivation.  This came as a surprise since these are adult learners. Hoever optimism and enthusiasm go a long way!

Being "up front" with the students seems to help them respect the instructor more in the long run. Then I look for solutions to avoid in the future.
