Our Local Anesthesia instructor uses a modification of this technique having students use styrofoam head forms to illustrate all of the skull bones, maxillary and mandibular teeth along with all of the nerve innervation for soft tissues and hard tissues.
They can select all of the colors, but the anatomical representation must be accurate. This is an example of an excellent pre-clinic hands on activity to familiarize students with all of the various structures they will need to know in order to identify appropriate landmarks and to administer effective anesthesia.
