One other activity that we have incorporated into pre-clinic involves placing small smily face dots at the location of each of the lymph nodes in the head and neck region as students are learning how to locate and identify lymph nodes as part of their extra-oral exam. It's fun to see all of the smily faces with the distribution of the lymph nodes easily observed. :-)

Our Local Anesthesia instructor uses a modification of this technique having students use styrofoam head forms to illustrate all of the skull bones, maxillary and mandibular teeth along with all of the nerve innervation for soft tissues and hard tissues. They can select all of the colors, but the anatomical representation must be accurate. This is an example of an excellent pre-clinic hands on activity to familiarize students with all of the various structures they will need to know in order to identify appropriate landmarks and to administer effective anesthesia.
