I learned that providing a safe environment is essential to protect the students and the teachers. Also, modeling respect and regulation is important for the student's success in the CTE classes.

I learned a variety of educational opportunities. Taking the time to make a first impression and connect with my students can help to facilitate a rich academic experience. I learned to find a network of professional connections and a mentor.

I have learned that students are not to be treated as peers. As teachers, we are responsible for maintaining authority and requiring respect from students. Be a role model. Teaching is not about what the teacher knows but what the teacher enables others to do. Teach students to build capacities by giving them choices like who to work with, what resources to use, what questions to ask, and what ways to show their knowledge. Teaching is about listening and focusing on the student's needs, building support, offering guidance & being sensitive and realistic.

I understand more about what CTE is and its history. I also understand how it affects me and applies to what I do in my position as an educator. It helps to better understand the origins and how it applies to career pathways.
