Since most instructors spend more than 50% of their time at work, it is just as important to be organized at your work place as it would be at your home. This will save you alot of time and frustration. Another time saver for instuctors is the use of textbooks that come with supporting materials. Also the use of scan trons is another easy and quick way to grade exams and homework assignments.

Utilizing good time mangement is very important for an instructor to master. It sets the mood of your day. Everyone at some point might be late coming into a classroom without time to go through your lecture notes or syllubus. Its those times when the instructor feels unorganized and frazzled and the students will sense that. Try to set your schedule up the day before so they you can briefly review what needs to be done in class. Its a good idea to write on the board a list of topics that you will be covering during your class time… >>>

I try to use open discussions in all of the topics that I am teaching. By asking questions I can usually figure out which students are really listening and which students are not. I try not to pick on any one person, because I do not want them to feel embarressed or ashamed if they really don't know the answers. I find that to be a very fine line to cross. If we are reviewing for an upcoming exam, I usually get a good response from the students. Most of them are eager to answer the questions however there are… >>>

As an educator it is our responsibility to give each student the support and tools needed for them to succeed. With a well planned modified study guide the student will be able to reach his or her goals for success.

Recognizing a student with a learning disability should be handled right away or they may start to feel overwhelmed and frustrated which could lead to them dropping out of class. Let the student know that you are avaiable for tutoring before or after class. Developing a plan for them is helpful. This same point also applies to those who have difficulity with the english language.

Students who sit in the front rows tend to be the ones who really want to learn. They are usually the ones who asks the questions. The ones who sit in the back are the ones who do not like to be called upon for answers. Students are reluctant to switch seats as they feel comfortable with where they are. They have gotten used to sitting in a specific place and they feel uncomfortable with change. Group study (if planned out properly)help students to view and share all ideas.

With social media on the rise like Facebook, twiter, Instagram students have alot going on in their mind. If an instructor is not prepared with proper teaching skills he or she will quickly lose their students attention. Starting a class with an outline of what you will be discussing, will give the students a starting point. I strongly agree with being redundant on key points especially when you are preparing them for an exam. Power point slides added a nice visual aid. Storytelling is a great tool. Giving a warm "good morning" smile sets a positive mood in the classroom.

I throughly enjoyed this course.  I will take with me what I've learned and apply it. Sometimes we as instructors have to step back and get back to the basic training lessons to remind us that there is an abundance of teaching tools out there that are avaiable to us.
