I have learned that this twchnique aims to leverage students innate desire for competition, socializing and learning. Faculty can use rewards for those who master the task or use it as a tool to engae students and compete against each other while learning. 

I was not new to instruction when hired by my employer but I certainly didn't and don't know everything. Three years ago I was thrown into a class setting without guidance or training about classroom management and it was the worst experience for me because I was not prepared to handle angry students. I think that all new and returning teachers should get some training in managing classrooms. it would definitely save everyone some heartaches.

I have had to dismiss a disruptive student from class once in 3 years. Looking back I wished I would have talked to her a little bit more to gain her trust. However, even though I made my class rules and set expectations on the first day she insisted on behaving as if she was at home. There was no accountability on her behalf and I kept my wors on my rules includung deadlines. The young lady just refused to grow up and stated that the real world was not like we sated it was. I agree Mrs. Z. I think that we could create our own 3 week module calendar with pertinent information about the class we are teaching. The calendar could include lab days, exams and times for the exam, project due date(s), and homework. I think that it woud be easier and the student would probably reference the calendar more than the cyllabus.
