Activity

Keeping lectures into max of 15-18 minutes and then doing an activity to reinforce understanding of content. Switching things around to keep students interested sand reach different learning styles and always practice demonstrations beforehand.

Getting to know your students helps build trust and incorporate their own interests and expertise into the class.

I like the analogy of building a road map to get to a goal (or objective) along with making a checklist of must cover items for each class.

I’ve learned the importance of creating a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes as part of the learning process. I have also learned with the time that the more prepared I am, the easier some questions are to respond to. If I show up, put together, on time, and prepared, it definitely reflects in how the classroom functions. 

As I continue developing as an instructor, I plan to incorporate more active learning strategies, provide clear expectations and feedback, and connect classroom content to real-world nursing practice. I also want to continue improving my teaching… >>>

What are your favorite free online sources that are easily incorporated into classroom content, specifically with nursing?

I learned that gaming and simulation are effective ways to keep students engaged online and in person, but each has advantages and disadvantages. I did like how the module discussed retention of knowledge and how each method, together - listening, watching, discussing, and doing, all help retain knowledge, individually, not as much is retained.
