I learned the importance of good questioning skills to do knowledge checks with the students to make sure they are understanding what is being taught.

I learned about the different learning styles and how I will have to change up my classes/exercises from time to time to ensure that all the learning styles are met.  It will also be helpful to identify the students' learning styles in the beginning of the course so that I can help them succeed.

I learned that I should use multiple data to assess my course.  I should use multiple, appropriate sources of data and multiple types of evaluations.  I will learn to value the student feedback as that should be relevant and honest feedback each class.

I learned that students expect and deserve feedback from instructors.  Feedback improves learning and helps students improve writing skills.

 

I learned the eight tasks to make sure students build sppropriate learning scaffoldin.  I believe the first and last on the list, Provide clear instructions and create momentum are the most important steps on my end to get the students engaged and to keep them engaged.

I learned the importance of module consistency to ensure the learner is staying engaged.  It is important to keep the lessons and assignments close to the same amount of time.

The challenges of online course vary from student to student and this lesson helped me identify some of the issues my students will encounter.  I learned to save communication with students and also how to counsel individual students that may encounter these challenges.

I intend to engage my students through thought provoking conversation starters, feedback through comment boards and synchronous discussions with individual students.

Aside from the standard introduction and presenting my bio, I can send a personalized message to each student.  I can also identify and discuss safe topics of the student's bio with them.  I can stay engaged and answer their answers in a timely manner.

I learned all the requirements that an instructor needs to prepare for online teaching.
